The Los Angeles Rams lost to the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday to fall to 2-3 on the season, but they have largely been competitive through the first five weeks and may want to make some moves ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline to bolster their playoff chances.
Could the Rams attempt to improve their aerial attack by going after Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts?
The situation between the Falcons and Pitts has been strange.
Pitts broke into the league as the fourth overall pick back in 2021, representing the highest selection ever for a tight end. He had a great rookie campaign, hauling in 68 receptions for 1,026 yards and a touchdown en route to a Pro Bowl appearance. However, last year, Pitts was limited to just 10 games due to an MCL injury, and during that time, he caught just 28 passes for 356 yards and a couple of scores.
This season, Pitts has logged 18 catches for 208 yards, with seven of those grabs coming in Atlanta’s Week 5 win over the Houston Texans.
While Pitts has not exactly been a forgotten man in the Falcons’ offense, his overall lack of usage is puzzling given his obvious ability.
Kevin Knight of The Falcoholic recently said during a Q&A that he had “no explanation” for Pitts’ current circumstances in Atlanta and that it “boggles the mind.”
Is it possible that the Falcons could be open to trading Pitts for the right return?
Evan Craig of Turf Show Times feels that the Rams could absolutely pursue Pitts if he is available, and though Los Angeles currently employs reliable veteran tight end Tyler Higbee in its stable of pass-catchers.
The Rams could send a 2024 second-round draft pick to the Falcons for Kyle Pitts, which would improve LA’s passing game and provide Atlanta with an asset to use to continue building its roster in the offseason.
