Dolphins Became 4th Team Since NFL Merger To Accomplish This

The Miami Dolphins entered the 2023 NFL season with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations for the first time in what seemed like forever. Alas, they were hit almost immediately by the injury bug, as star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, whom they had traded for in the offseason, suffered a knee injury that is expected to keep him out until December.

More recently, rookie running back De’Von Achane, who had been playing incredibly well, suffered a knee injury that will keep him out for at least a few games.

But the Dolphins have rolled despite all that adversity. They’re tied for the best record in the league at 5-1, and they lead everyone in points and total yards per game.

Early in their Week 6 contest, they looked to be in trouble against the moribund Carolina Panthers when they fell behind 14-0, but they hit the proverbial turbo button and won 42-21. That made them only the fourth team since the AFL-NFL merger to win a game by at least 21 points after trailing in that same contest by 14 or more points.

Miami has arguably the best wide receiver tandem in football in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Waddle, who is in his third year, has 296 yards and two touchdowns in five games, while Hill is blazing away at 814 receiving yards and six touchdowns, both of which lead the league.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had a breakout campaign last year, has completed 71.1 percent of his passes for 1,876 yards and 14 touchdowns so far in 2023. He is first in passing yards and passer rating and he is tied for first in passing touchdowns with the Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins.

This Sunday, the Fins will face a big test when they head up Interstate 95 to take on the Philadelphia Eagles, the defending NFC champs.
