Michael Thomas Projected To Land With Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have won their second Super Bowl in four years. They are the example that other franchises around the league are looking to replicate as they have had quite a run with Andy Reid as head coach. They have won double-digit regular season games and made the playoffs in eight straight years and nine out of 10 years under Reid.

Part of the reason that the team has had so much success is the performance of their offense. The Chiefs have been virtually unstoppable for six years on that side of the ball, ranking in the top six of yards and points scored every season.

What is most impressive is that the Chiefs can succeed no matter how much their game plan has to change. In 2022, they were without Tyreek Hill as he was traded to the Miami Dolphins. Despite being without an All-Pro wide receiver, Patrick Mahomes won the MVP award and the Chiefs rolled on offense.

This offseason, there could be more changes to be made. JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman and Justin Watson are all hitting free agency. That could be a lot of production departing, leaving a real void in their lineup.

If that occurs, the Chiefs could be in the market for another veteran wide receiver to fill the void. The Chiefs have some young receivers in Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney likely ready for larger roles, but having some insurance is never a bad thing.

One player that could pique their interest in free agency is Michael Thomas. If the Chiefs were lucky enough to get the Thomas from 2016-2019, it would truly be unfair. For the first four seasons of his career, the Ohio State product was arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL.

Alas, the last three seasons have been marred by injury. Thomas has played in only 10 games, missing the entire 2021 season. It is certainly up for debate how much he has to offer, but when on the field for three games last season, he still got the job done. His 77.4 receiving grade was 12th among wide receivers.

Adding him to an offense that already has Travis Kelce and emerging young players would be a sight to see. It would be a low-risk, high-reward kind of move by the Chiefs. They could even get a discount signing him as Thomas would have the chance to compete for a title and rehab his value in Kansas City.
