With the Minnesota Vikings struggling at 1-4, they appear ready to try and move Kirk Cousins.
After making the playoffs with one best records in the NFL last season, the Minnesota Vikings are currently 1-4 and appear ready to throw in the towel. In their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Vikings saw their star wide receiver Justin Jefferson go down with a hamstring injury. Jefferson was placed on IR and it appears like that might have been the final blow to a disappointing Vikings season.
With the team struggling, recent reports are that the Vikings are more open to moving Cousins.
The idea of moving Cousins certainly makes a lot of sense for the Vikings. They don’t appear like they are all that interested in keeping him long-term, so they might as well try to get some draft compensation back for him rather than just letting him walk in free agency.
Even though the Vikings might not be interested in keeping Cousins, that doesn’t mean that he can’t help a team this season. Cousins might not be an elite quarterback, but he is a solid veteran who has won a lot of games in the NFL. While the knock on Cousins might be that he can’t win the important one, he also hasn’t had an elite team around him.
So far this season, Cousins has totaled 1,498 passing yards, 14 touchdown passes, and just three interceptions. With a QBR of 60, Cousins is currently ranked 12th in the league in that category.
With the Vikings seemingly more open to moving Kirk Cousins, it will be interesting to see who might be interested and what kind of compensation they might be looking for.
As the trade deadline gets closer, we will have to see what happens with the Vikings and Cousins in the next couple of weeks. If he is traded, he could help change the playoff picture depending on where he goes.
