Patriots Urged To Trade For Intriguing Bears’ Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots have gotten off to a 1-4 start this season, their worst mark under Bill Belichick since 2000. While 2023 may be a lost cause for the Patriots, they can still make some moves between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline for the benefit of their future, perhaps with the Chicago Bears.

Enzo Flojo of ClutchPoints suggests that New England pursues Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. to bolster the club’s aerial attack.

The Bears are also 1-4, so they could certainly sell off some pieces in the coming weeks. Whether or not they would be open to moving Jones is anyone’s guess, as he is only in his second season. However, Jones has barely garnered any usage in Chicago. As a matter of fact, the only action Jones has seen this year has been as a rusher, as he has carried the ball twice for seven years. He hasn’t been targeted as a receiver once.

Last season, Jones logged seven catches for 107 yards and a touchdown while also rushing the ball nine times for 103 yards and a score.

The Bears took Jones, who played his collegiate football at both USC and the University of Tennessee, in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but he has certainly not lived up to expectations thus far.

Either that, or Chicago has not been utilizing him properly.

Maybe Belichick and the Pats could find a role for him?

One thing is for sure: the Patriots need to do something. They are averaging just 11 points per game, which ranks last in the NFL. They have amassed a grand total of three points the last two weeks, and it appears that the club may be preparing to move on from quarterback Mac Jones.

New England will take on the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday.
