Could the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes be coming to an end soon? Based on updated odds on where the former All-Pro wide receiver could end up as a free agent, it would seem that a final decision is near.
Earlier this week, the Tennessee Titans had odds of +500 to sign DeAndre Hopkins to a deal. By Wednesday, those odds had flipped as they became the overwhelming favorites at -300, which has an implied probability of 75 percent.
Based on that, it would be a surprise to many people were DeAndre Hopkins to land anywhere else. However, why the odds shift occurred could have been for a few different reasons. Sometimes there is someone with insider information that places a large wager that causes the sportsbook to adjust. Other times it could come from people who believe they have an edge and multiple wagers are placed.
Whatever the reason may be, the Titans are seemingly in the driver’s seat. That isn’t too surprising as they were one of only two teams, along with the New England Patriots, that hosted DeAndre Hopkins for a visit this offseason after being released by the Arizona Cardinals.
Another team to keep an eye on throughout the process has been the Kansas City Chiefs. They don’t have the cash to offer DeAndre Hopkins a competitive offer right now, but there are avenues that they can take to clear cap space and make a competitive offer.
If that were to occur, the odds would very likely flip in their favor. Not only do they have a significant role to offer DeAndre Hopkins, but they are also the reigning Super Bowl winners. Being able to play for a contender after appearing in only six playoff games in 10 seasons would certainly be appealing.
Despite missing 15 games the last two seasons because of suspension and injury, DeAndre Hopkins showed that he still has plenty left in the tank to offer a team. In those 19 games he played in, he caught 106 passes for 1,289 yards and 11 touchdowns.
