There has been plenty of quarterback movement this offseason in the NFL that has changed the landscape of the league. But, there are still a few more dominoes that could fall ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft. Even Seattle Seahawks superstar quarterback Russell Wilson was traded.
Some teams will be in the market for quarterbacks in the draft, but those plans could be altered in the coming weeks if another deal is made. One of the players that many thought would be on the move already is Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers.
Garoppolo has helped get the 49ers into the NFC Championship game twice in the last three seasons, but the organization is ready to go in a different direction at the position. Trey Lance, the No. 3 overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft whom San Francisco traded up to acquire, will likely take over as the starting quarterback.
Despite some openings having been created throughout the offseason, Garoppolo remains with the 49ers for now. One team that could have an opening is NFC West division rivals, the Seahawks. The Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos this offseason and acquired Drew Lock in the deal.
Lock hasn’t shown that he can be a full-time starter in the NFL yet, but there is a chance Seattle gives him one more chance and selects a quarterback in this year’s draft class. But, according to the odds over at Bovada, the Seahawks don’t have a great chance of adding Garoppolo.
According to Bovada, Seattle currently has +300 odds of landing Garoppolo this offseason.
Those odds are tied with the Carolina Panthers. But, according to the sportsbook, the overwhelming favorite is for Garoppolo to remain with the 49ers for Game 1 of the 2022 NFL season.
San Francisco is going to do everything they can to move Garoppolo, but you need two to tango and complete a trade. If they cannot find a team willing to take him on, he will likely be made the backup on the team.
Rounding out the top-five in the odds for Garoppolo is the Detroit Lions, who are +650 and the Houston Texans, who are +1400.
