Saints Could Pursue Former Favorite Target Of Derek Carr

The New Orleans Saints‘ situation at wide receiver is a mess heading into free agency, which could leave Derek Carr with limited options heading into 2024.

Outside of Chris Olave, nothing is certain for the Saints at the wide out position going into the offseason.

Saints fixture Michael Thomas seems likely to be cut, Rashid Shaheed is a restricted free agent, and beyond that, New Orleans has very little depth.

Even if the Saints are able to keep Shaheed, they would still need some help in that area, which is why Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department is suggesting they pursue Las Vegas Raiders receiver Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow is expected to be either traded or released, so New Orleans will have its chance to land the former favorite target of Carr this offseason.

Of course, Renfrow and Carr spent time together with the Raiders, and back in 2021, Carr connected with Renfrow 103 times for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.

The last couple of seasons, Renfrow’s production has declined significantly, as concussions limited him to just 10 games in 2022. This past year, Renfrow fell out of favor in Vegas and logged just 25 catches for 255 yards and no touchdowns.

Perhaps a reunion with Carr could revitalize Renfrow’s career?

The Saints could certainly use Renfrow if he is able to recapture any of his old form, which was a sure-handed slot receiver who could open up the field for the bigger targets.

Naturally, New Orleans can’t simply bring in Renfrow and then call it a day. It would still have to find other means to address the position, as it is a weakness for the club at the moment.

But, there is no doubt that Renfrow would be an interesting addition, as he has rapport with Carr and could be quite the bargain if he is able to stay healthy.
