The New Orleans Saints are still over the salary cap, but they are still making moves to better their unenviable cap situation.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Saints have restructured the contract of linebacker Demario Davis. Davis previously had one year remaining on his deal, and the deal contained no guarantees..

Now, Davis has a two-year, $17.25 million contract with $13.25 million in guaranteed money.

Davis is coming off of a brilliant 2023 campaign in which he played every game and racked up 121 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and four passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 35-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Arkansas State, was originally selected by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Jets, with his best season during that span coming in 2014 when he registered 116 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a couple of fumble recoveries and five passes defended.

Davis proceeded to sign with the Cleveland Browns in 2016 and spent one season with the Browns before being traded back to the Jets in June 2017.

He enjoyed a phenomenal 2017 campaign in New York, rattling off 135 tackles and five sacks.

That ensuing offseason, Davis made his way to New Orleans, where he has resided ever since.

During his second season with the Saints in 2019, Davis earned a First-Team All-Pro selection after finishing with 111 tackles, four sacks and an interception.

He has made back-to-back trips to the Pro Bowl the last couple of seasons and has also notched Second-Team All-Pro honors in each of the last four years.

Now, it’s looking more and more like Davis will finish his career with the Saints.
