The New York Jets signed wide receiver Mike Williams to a one-year deal on Tuesday, giving the team a rather impressive duo of Williams and Garrett Wilson on the aerial attack.

During his introductory press conference on Wednesday morning, Williams said that Wilson reminds him of a former Los Angeles Chargers teammate.

“I just felt like it was a great fit for me,” Williams said, via the Jets’ official X account. “Aaron [Rodgers], I want to be able to play with him. Pick his brain, learn from him. Playing alongside Garrett, kind of reminds me of Keenan [Allen] a little bit. Similar style play, great route runners and I feel like we can complement each other in that area. The running game is pretty good, defense is elite so I just feel like we have a pretty good opportunity in front of us.”

Williams played alongside of Allen for seven years in Los Angeles, so he is certainly familiar with what Allen brings to the table.

Being compared to Allen is certainly flattering for Wilson, as Allen has made six Pro Bowl appearances and has posted six 1,000-yard campaigns since entering the NFL in 2013.

Wilson has certainly showed considerable potential over his first couple of seasons.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by the Jets with the 10th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, playing in every game and hauling in 83 receptions for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns. He took a bit of a step back this past season, catching 95 passes for 1,042 yards and three scores, but New York’s offense as a whole was brutal in 2023.

With a healthy Rodgers returning and Garrett Wilson and Williams in tow in the receiving corps, the Jets’ passing game should be fun to watch next season.

Maybe it will look similar to what Mike Williams and Allen had in LA.
