Jets Named Potential Destination For Raiders’ Star Wide Receiver

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers needs some more targets to throw to. Could the Jets try and swing a deal for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams?

Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department lists Adams as a top trade target for New York, which would reunite Rodgers and Adams after they spent eight seasons together with the Green Bay Packers.

Rodgers played just one offensive series for the Jets in 2023 before going down with a torn Achilles. That immediately squelched Gang Green’s Super Bowl hopes, but even if Rodgers remained healthy, he may not have had enough to work with in the aerial attack.

Outside of Garrett Wilson, New York’s receiving corps are fairly thin. The problem for the Jets is that they won’t have a ton of cap space heading into free agency, so it will be difficult for them to dive into the pool of free-agent wide outs this March.

As a result, New York may have to turn to trades, and if it does, Adams should be at the top of its priority list.

Of course, the Raiders would have to be open to moving Adams for this to even be a realistic though, and based on Adams’ affinity for new Las Vegas head coach Antonio Pierce, that probably won’t happen.

Adams expressed some displeasure in Vegas this past season, but that was before Pierce replaced Josh McDaniels on the sideline. Adams threw his support behind Pierce as the Raiders went through the hiring process, and ultimately, Las Vegas settled on Pierce going into 2024.

The Raiders went 8-9 this year and were fringe playoff contenders, so it seems rather hard to envision them seriously entertaining trade offers for Adams in the coming months.

Would the Raiders budge if the Jets blew them away with an offer? Perhaps, but as of right now, the idea of Rodgers and Adams playing together again is rooted more in fantasy than reality.

Davante Adams hauled in 103 receptions for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023. He is under contract through 2026.
