Wide receiver Mecole Hardman didn’t mince words during his appearance on “The Pivot” podcast this week when reflecting on his tenure with the New York Jets.
Expressing his frustration, Hardman criticized the Jets’ offensive strategy, a sentiment he shared before Aaron Rodgers’ unfortunate injury sidelined him with a torn Achilles.
“But the offense is just like, ‘We’ll just figure it out. It’s Aaron’s show. Let Aaron do what Aaron does.’ Then when Aaron goes down, it’s like we don’t know what to do.”
Hardman, who inked a one-year deal with the Jets the previous offseason, quickly realized he wouldn’t feature prominently in their regular season plans. Consequently, he found himself mentally disengaged from the game.
Jets punter Thomas Morstead swiftly responded to Hardman’s remarks, expressing his discontent with the three-time Super Bowl champion via social media on Wednesday.
“Be careful getting information from disgruntled former employees. Getting beat out by a rookie free agent after being guaranteed millions of dollars is tough to deal with. Entitlement is a killer of opportunity. You have to earn it every year.”
Morstead’s response garnered significant attention and support from fans, given the candid nature of his reaction.
While it’s undeniable that the New York Jets faced significant challenges this past season, including organizational turmoil, it’s also fair to acknowledge that Hardman didn’t align with their offensive vision.
