Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts have been one of the most talked about topics around the NFL over the last month. At this point in time, the two sides seemed destined for a divorce in the near future. Many thought he would end up being traded on roster cut-down day, but that didn’t end up happening.
Instead, Taylor has been placed on the PUP list and will miss the first four weeks of the 2023 season. Things don’t appear to be getting any better, but the Colts are holding out hope that the relationship can be fixed.
With everything going on in Indianapolis, one NFL agent came out and ripped into Taylor for the way he has handled his situation with the Colts.
“This has all been pride and ego that’s gotten in the way, and embarrassment. Jonathan just played it all wrong. If he’d have done the little things the right way, he’d come out in February negotiating from a position of strength. Right now, he’s negotiating from a position of feelings.”

It’s hard to disagree with that assessment. However, the same could be said about the Colts.
Both sides have handled things very publicly and very emotionally. But, it is important to note that the Colts have not said that they won’t pay Taylor. They simply want to see what the star running back can do this season after a brutal down year last season where the team only won four games.
During the 2022 season with the Colts, Taylor ended up carrying the football 192 times for 861 yards and four touchdowns. Compare that to his 2021 season of 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns on 332 carries and the team’s concerns are much more understandable.

Taylor dealt with nagging injury issues all season long and is still complaining of ankle pain ahead of 2023. That would be enough to scare most teams away from giving a massive contract extension.
All of that being said, we definitely have not heard the last of the situation between Jonathan Taylor and the Colts. Hopefully, the two sides are able to come back together and figure things out on a more mature level. This agent did not hold back his thoughts on Taylor’s approach, but he certainly isn’t wrong.
