NFL Writer Suggests 3 Wide Receiver Trade Targets For Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks suffered a major blow to their offense during their second preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. Rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba suffered a wrist injury after getting tackled just short of the goal line.

He underwent surgery on a broken bone in his left wrist in Philadelphia. Somewhat remarkably, he was able to get back onto the practice field a week after the operation. However, it would not be surprising if the team opted to take things slow and ensure he is 100 percent healthy before getting back onto the field.

With that in mind, the team could look for some help at the wide receiver position. Lee Vowell of 12th Man Rising on the FanSided Network suggested three wide receivers that the Seahawks could target to help a banged-up group of pass catchers.

The first player suggested is Josh Reynolds of the Detroit Lions. A free agent after the season, it shouldn’t cost too much to acquire him from Detroit. He would be an excellent fourth receiver for Seattle once Smith-Njigba is able to return to the lineup as well.

If the team is looking for a slot receiver to step right into Smith-Njigba’s role, the Seahawks could make a call to the New Orleans Saints about Tre’Quan Smith. Smith is a bit of a forgotten man in New Orleans, falling out of favor.

Nearly all of his production came in Weeks 3-9, which makes it seem he would be available if the Saints were presented with an offer that they like. A speedster who can handle slot duties, Smith could step right into the role that Marquise Goodwin held with the Seahawks last season before moving on to the Cleveland Browns in free agency.

Last but not least, Vowell suggested a splash acquisition. His third potential trade target is Michael Pittman Jr. of the Indianapolis Colts. This suggestion was made more with the future in mind. Tyler Lockett will be turning 32 next season and there is an out in his contract after 2023.

It certainly wouldn’t be cheap to acquire the Colts’ No. 1 receiver. They are in the process of trying to figure out the situation with running back Jonathan Taylor, so it is hard to imagine they would give Pittman away for anything less than a top-of-the-market offer.

On top of whatever assets the Seahawks would have to trade, Pittman is also due an extension. It is fair to question whether or not Seattle would want to pay a big contract on top of all the likely draft capital they would be parting ways with.
