San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is one of the NFL’s fastest rising stars.
In just his first full season as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, Purdy finished fourth in MVP voting and led the team all the way to the Super Bowl, where San Francisco ultimately fell to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.
Purdy has heard his fair share of criticisms, such as being a glorified game manager or a mere product of Kyle Shanahan’s system, but whether you like him or not, Purdy is ascending the ranks among signal-callers in the NFL.
A former NFL executive loves what he is seeing from Purdy, but he tells the NFL Analysis Network that the youngster needs to do one more thing to take that next big step.
“Brock Purdy is one of the most talented arms that I’ve seen. However, I think he needs to find more fire,” the former exec said. “I want to see him get amped on the field. That’s a big key for him to become a legitimate great quarterback.”
Purdy definitely has a subdued personality, which is something that people typically don’t like to see from elite quarterbacks.
However, if that is who he is, everyone will probably just have to live with it.
Remember: we heard this same type of criticism about New York Giants legend Eli Manning, and Manning went on to win a pair of Super Bowl championships.
That being said, even Manning showed more emotion than Purdy on the field.
Purdy threw for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 69.4 percent of his passes and posting a league-high passer rating of 113 this past season.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Iowa State, was selected by the Niners with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
We’ll see what Brock Purdy can do for an encore in 2024.
