NFL Analyst Pumps The Brakes On Hype For Packers’ Jordan Love

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is the talk of the town following his team’s dramatic come-from-behind victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.

Love and the Packers entered the fourth quarter down 17-0 but emerged from Lambeau Field with an 18-17 win, improving to 2-1 on the season.

However, NFL analyst Colin Cowherd is not necessarily buying into the Love hype just yet.

“I don’t think Jordan Love’s great,” Cowherd said. “I’m not sure if he’s even very good. I’m not sure if he’s good. He was 22 of 44. Some dropped passes, some really bad throws. But it’s the largest comeback in Packers history.”

Cowherd makes a valid point in highlighting Love’s lack of efficiency. He completed just 50 percent of his throws against the Saints, and on the season overall for the Packers, he owns a completion percentage of just 53.1 percent. That certainly isn’t good.

“Jordan Love trails 17 – nothing. But he’s got that young, naive, optimistic, ‘we’re never out of it till the game ends’ feel and I think players pick up on that,” added Cowherd. “I think teammates pick up on that now. Did he get a break? Derek Carr got hurt. Yes, he got a break.”

Carr—New Orleans’ starting quarterback—exited the game in the third quarter after suffering an AC joint sprain and did not return. Carr was having a solid performance before being forced out, going 13-for-18 with 103 yards and a touchdown. He was replaced by Jameis Winston, who went 10-for-16 with 101 yards.

So was there maybe some luck involved in Love’s outing? Sure.

However, it is also important to keep in mind that Love was without his starting running back, No. 1 receiver and two starting offensive linemen. The Packers have been extremely banged up, yet they’re 2-1.

On the season overall, Jordan Love has thrown for 655 yards, seven touchdowns and an interception.

Next up for the Packers will be a tough Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. It’s another chance for Love to show what’s he’s made of in a tough division game.
