NFL Analyst Reveals Crazy Take On Eagles’ Quarterback Situation

Marcus Mariota, Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is banged up right now. He has been dealing with a knee injury for quite some time, and during this past Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, he was evaluated for a concussion. Hurts cleared concussion protocol and returned to the game, but it was still a scary moment for the Eagles.

Philadelphia has a pivotal NFC East divisional matchup with the Dallas Cowboys on tap for this coming weekend, and former NFL quarterback and current analyst David Carr thinks Philly should do something crazy: start Marcus Mariota over Hurts.

Carr explains that Hurts is clearly not 100 percent right now and does not seem entirely comfortable in dropback situations (via JPA Football). For that reason, he thinks that the Eagles should have the big picture in mind and roll with Mariota against a fierce Cowboys defense.

Carr adds that the No. 1 seed should not be all that important to Philadelphia, as the 49ers just proved they can easily go into Philly and beat the Birds.

Of course, the chances of the Eagles actually following Carr’s advice are slim to none.

While Hurts may not be fully healthy, he has certainly been well enough to play throughout the season, and it’s not like his balky knee has prevented him from moving around. Heck, just two weeks ago, Hurts carried the ball 14 times for 65 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Hurts went 26-for-45 with 298 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles’ blowout loss to San Francisco this past weekend. He also rushed the ball seven times for 20 yards and a score.

On the season overall, Hurts has thrown for 2,995 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 66.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 93.8. He has also registered 430 yards and 12 scores on the ground.

Philadelphia owns the NFL’s best record at 10-2.
