San Francisco 49ers star pass rusher Nick Bosa is going to become a rich man sooner than later. Set to play out the fifth-year option on his rookie contract in 2023, Nick Bosa could reset the market with the contract extension he receives from the team.

If he and his representation are seeking the largest contract in NFL history for a defensive player, it would be hard to argue that he hasn’t earned it. Selected No. 2 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Nick Bosa got off to a quick start in his career, stuffing the stat sheet.

He had 47 total tackles with 9.0 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 25 quarterback hits, two passes defended and one interception. It resulted in a Defensive Rookie of the Year award and a spot on the Pro Bowl team.

Unfortunately, his sophomore season was cut short because of injury. Nick Bosa suffered an ACL tear in Week 2 against the New York Jets, ending the 2020 season. But, he returned with a vengeance in 2021, picking right up where he left off.

The Ohio State product led the NFL with 21 tackles for loss, adding 15.5 sacks and 32 quarterback hits. Another Pro Bowl nomination was earned, but in 2022, he took his game to another level.

Nick Bosa took home the Defensive Player of the Year award while leading the league with 18.5 sacks. He lived in the opponent’s backfield, picking up 19 tackles for loss and 48 quarterback hits as well. Not surprisingly, a third Pro Bowl nomination was secured as well.

What can we expect from the former Buckeye in Year 5? FantasyPros is projecting yet another dominant season. Nick Bosa is expected to have 52 total tackles with 17 sacks. Betting against him reaching those numbers would likely be a losing proposition.

Last season, Nick Bosa went under weekly projections just four times in 16 games. One of those instances was because of injury; in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers, he played only 38 percent of the snaps, which was a season-low.
