One of the biggest storylines heading into the 2024 NFL offseason is what the Chicago Bears are going to do at the quarterback position. They have the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the second straight year being in the top spot.
Will they pass up the opportunity to select a quarterback again? If they decide against doing that again, the future of Justin Fields then comes into focus. The incumbent, a 2021 first-round pick, would almost certainly be on the move via trade if a quarterback is selected first overall.
Where could Fields end up? There should be several teams interested in acquiring the dynamic dual-threat who showed plenty of development throughout the 2023 season. His long-term contract status makes for some tough decisions, such as the fifth-year option that will have to be decided on this offseason.
If the Bears opt to trade Fields, one team that could show interest is the Las Vegas Raiders. In the opinion of Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, they could make a very strong offer including multiple draft picks.

Trapasso has suggested that the Bears send Fields and a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Raiders in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick and a 2025 conditional third-round pick. That 2025 pick will turn into a second should Fields play 75 percent of the snaps in the 2024 season and will be a first-round if Fields leads the Raiders to the playoffs.
That would certainly be a bold trade for both sides to make. Chicago would be banking on more long-term assets coming their way to continue building their roster up around whoever it is they choose first overall. The Raiders would seemingly have their new quarterback of the future to go along with the new regime in place with head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco.
Fields is arguably the most intriguing quarterback that could be available in the NFL this offseason. He is young enough for a team to feel they can still develop him and he won’t cost anywhere near the same range as other established quarterbacks have cost in recent years on the trade market or contract-wise.
The Raiders should be in the market for an upgrade on Aidan O’Connell this offseason. If someone as talented as Fields does shake loose, they should make an aggressive offer to acquire them.
