NFL Analyst Wonders If Cowboys Could Make Shocking Trade

Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is one of the most dominant defensive players in football, and at first glance, you would think he is going to be a Cowboy for life.

But could Dallas actually do the unthinkable and trade Parsons at some point?

Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan pondered the possibility, saying that the Cowboys’ hand may be forced once Parsons gets to the end of his rookie contract.

“I just wonder, does it reach a Jalen Ramsey or Bradley Chubb point where you get near the end of the rookie deal and they’re like, ‘Look you you want different things. We’re having a tough time with some of these growing pains. It’s best for both of us, you just go and we’ll get the draft capital,'” Belt contemplated, via Jonathan Adams of Heavy.com. “I don’t think that’s likely, but I think it’s at least a possibility that it comes to that point, at some point.”

Belt also noted that Parsons has expressed some frustrations and that his antics could ultimately result in Dallas deciding that it needs to move him.

Of course, all of this is just hearsay, as it is hard to imagine the Cowboys actually trading Parsons.

The 24-year-old played in every game this season, racking up 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery en route to his third straight Pro Bowl selection. However, he logged just two tackles in Dallas’ Wild Card Round loss to the Green Bay Packers, and in four career playoff games, Parsons has totaled just one sack.

Parsons, who played his collegiate football at Penn State, was selected by the Cowboys with the 12th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

In addition to making the Pro Bowl, Parsons also earned First-Team All-Pro selections in each of his first two seasons.

Parsons has one year remaining on his rookie deal. He is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, so it should certainly be interesting to monitor the potential negotiations.

Should the Cowboys fail to strike a long-term deal with Parsons in the coming months, it could then exercise his fifth-year option, keeping him under team control through 2025.
