It’s no secret that the Kansas City Chiefs are in need of a wide receiver.
Right now, the Chiefs lack a clear No. 1 wide out on their roster, with Patrick Mahomes relying on unproven talents such as Justin Watson and Skyy Moore in the passing game.
For that reason, Kansas City could be a major player in the receiver market between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, and there could be some interesting targets available.
Take Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Mike Evans, for example.
A former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network that the Chiefs should pursue Evans.
“There are quite a few directions the Chiefs could go at the trade deadline. However, Mike Evans should be their primary target,” said the former exec. “Evans in that offense would be exactly the missing piece to make Kansas City the Super Bowl favorite again.”
A tandem of Mahomes and Evans would certainly be terrifying to opposing defenses.
Evans is playing out the final year of his deal in Tampa Bay, as he and the Buccaneers were unable to reach a long-term agreement prior to the season. The Bucs are 2-1, but the general consensus is that they are not legitimate contenders by any means. In turn, many feel that the club could end up placing Evans on the trade block in the coming weeks.
The 30-year-old has been one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL since entering the league in 2014 and has already set a record by logging nine consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns to begin his career.
Evans, who has made four trips to the Pro Bowl, has already been busy this season, logging 17 catches for 297 yards and three touchdowns through the first three weeks.
The Chiefs are looking to defend their Super Bowl title, and Evans would definitely make that task significantly easier.
