NFL Exec Thinks Giants Should Trade For Justin Fields

The New York Giants snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon, but they are still just 2-5 and appear to be going nowhere fast.

The Giants are currently without quarterback Daniel Jones, who has missed the last two contests due to a neck injury. Even before he went down, Jones was playing some very poor football, throwing two touchdowns and six interceptions on the season.

As a result, some are wondering if New York could move in a different direction under center for 2024, and a former NFL executive told the NFL Analysis Network who he thinks Big Blue should target.

“If the Bears do trade Justin Fields, which I think they should, the Giants should be at the front of the line,” the former exec said. “Brian Daboll would be a perfect coach for Fields. He could turn things around in New York.”

Of course, this wouldn’t be so easy as a snap of the fingers for New York.

The Giants just handed Jones a massive four-year, $160 million contract this past offseason, so they would have to decide what they would do with Jones first before making any moves for a signal-caller.

Plus, while Fields did put together a couple of solid performances this season before going down with a thumb injury, I’m not so sure he would be an upgrade over Jones.

At the very least, Jones had a strong season last year and led New York to its first playoff appearance in six years and its first playoff win since the franchise last won the Super Bowl in February 2012.

Meanwhile, Fields has been mostly subpar since being drafted by the Bears in 2021, going just 6-25 as a starter. Prior to Weeks 4 and 5 this season where Fields totaled eight touchdowns and one interception, there was talk of Chicago benching him.

The only definitive positive for Justin Fields over Jones is that Fields does not have a massive contract…yet.
