NFL insider Peter King from NBC Sports has raised the possibility of Buffalo Bills’ star wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, becoming a source of controversy for the second consecutive offseason.

In his “Football Morning in America” column on Monday, King suggested that Bills’ General Manager, Brandon Beane, might be considering significant changes to Diggs’ contract.

King also anticipates that Diggs may not be pleased with such potential developments.

“Diggs is 30. He’s due for a cap number of $27.9M next year, which, for a player who didn’t have a 100-yard receiving day in the Bills’ last 13 games, is quite excessive.”

Diggs gained attention for openly expressing his frustrations during a playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in January 2023. There were reports that he desired a more significant role in the team’s offensive game-planning during the previous offseason.

According to ESPN statistics, Diggs had an impressive regular season, ranking seventh in the NFL with 107 receptions, tied for sixth with 160 targets, and 13th with 1,183 receiving yards. Although he had eight touchdown catches, he failed to score a single touchdown after Week 12.

In April 2022, Diggs signed a four-year contract extension with the Bills, which could potentially be valued at up to $96 million. Recent reports by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk highlighted that Diggs’ 2024 base salary of $18.5 million will become fully guaranteed on March 17.

Beane, addressing reporters after the Bills’ divisional-round playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, reiterated his belief that Diggs remains a top-tier wide receiver for a championship-caliber team, despite a costly fourth-quarter drop in that game.

History suggests that if Stefon Diggs is unhappy with any contractual requests from Beane, he won’t hesitate to make it known before the March 17 deadline. However, it is essential to acknowledge that both Diggs and the Bills may have mutual interests in working together for at least one more season as they aim to return to the AFC Championship Game, a feat they haven’t achieved since January 2021.
