The Las Vegas Raiders will be in the market for a quarterback this offseason, but don’t expect them to pursue Russell Wilson.
Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz threw a wet blanket on any potential union between the Raiders and Wilson, saying he would be surprised if it happened.
“I would be really, really surprised, based on what I’ve been told, if it was with the Raiders,” Schultz said this week. “I know it’s been speculated nationally but it would surprise me if Russell Wilson ended up with the Raiders.”
Wilson is expected to be released by the Denver Broncos this offseason. He was benched for the final two games of the regular season after he declined to defer his $37 million injury guarantee.
The 35-year-old threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 66.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98 in 2023.
Wilson spent the first decade of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, making nine Pro Bowl appearances. Most importantly, he led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title during the 2013-14 campaign.
The Broncos then acquired Wilson in a blockbuster trade with Seattle in March 2022 with the expectation that he would transform the franchise.
Instead, Denver went just 5-12 in Wilson’s debut campaign as he trudged through the worst season of his NFL career. He rebounded with a solid year this past season, but the Broncos went 8-9 and missed the playoffs.
Clearly, things are not working out for Russell Wilson in the Mile High City, and a change of scenery could be exactly what the veteran needs.
But apparently, the Raiders will not be the team to give him that change.
