Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers came through with a massive Week 12 upset over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day. It was a win that very few expected, but one that looked rather convincing. Not only did the Packers win the game to improve to 5-6 on the season, Love looked the part of a potential long-term franchise quarterback.
In the big win, Love completed 22 of his 32 pass attempts for 268 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also picked up 39 yards on the ground, including a massive 37-yard fourth quarter run.
While the Packers are nowhere close to being a serious contender in the NFC, they are showing signs of life. After many had written them off, Green Bay still has a path to the playoffs.
Following the big win over Detroit, NFL legend Michael Irvin revealed a major take on Love. He stated that he’s seeing some of Aaron Rodgers in the Packers’ young signal caller.
On the outside looking in, Love has shown some major signs of the years he spent learning behind Rodgers. He has been able to make insane throws from angles that many quarterbacks can’t. He has also shown the poise and leadership that the long-time Packers’ superstar displayed.
So far this season in 11 games, Love has completed 60.5 percent of his pass attempts for 2,599 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He has also racked up 221 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Those numbers aren’t amazing, but they should be enough for the Packers to be comfortable that they have their new quarterback.
At 25 years of age, Love has had some ups and downs in his first season as the team’s starter. However, so did Rodgers when he took over for Brett Favre. The fact is, Love can make plays and he can do so at a much better level than many young quarterbacks around the NFL.
Looking towards the future, the Packers need to focus on building talent around Jordan Love. He has all the tools needed to become a special NFL quarterback. If they can give him the weapons, the sky is the limit moving forward.
Next up for the Packers will be a huge Week 13 showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. That game will give Love yet another chance to show what he’s capable of on the national stage. It will be interesting to see if he rises to the occasion.
