Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray doesn’t have a timetable for his return from an ACL injury he suffered in his right knee last NFL season. Murray doesn’t know right now if he’ll be ready to play in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.
“Obviously, me being the competitor I am, do I want to miss any time? No,” Murray said. “It’s not on my mind, but we’re not even in August yet. So I’m taking it one day at a time. … We’re preparing the body, we’re preparing the mind to be able to do those things. I do think the first time I’m out there maybe I might be [hesitant] but with the reps, I think the confidence will grow and grow.”
Murray appeared in 11 games for the Cardinals last season. He threw for 2,368 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing 66.4% of his passes. However, Arizona was only 3-8 with Murray under center and finished the season with an overall record of 4-13.
Jonathan Gannon is the Cardinals’ new head coach and Drew Petzing is the new offensive coordinator. Murray believes he’s picking up the new offense pretty fast despite not being able to practice.

“I’m picking it up pretty fast, pretty well,” Murray said. “I think the coaches would say so, as well. We’re doing things to allow me, again, to learn faster. So, if I wasn’t taking the reps mentally and just spitting it out, like at home, in the mirror, to the coaches, whatever it is, in the meetings, then, yeah, I’d probably be behind but the fact that we’re on it and we’re constantly doing it, it’s been easy.”
In 57 games with the Cardinals, Murray has thrown for 13,848 yards and 84 touchdowns. The 25-year-old has also rushed for 2,204 yards and 23 touchdowns. He’s one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL and the Cardinals are certainly hopeful Murray will be under center in Week 1.
