5 teams who should take a chance on Jameis Winston in free agency

Jameis Winston took a year to learn with the New Orleans Saints and develop behind future Hall of Fame quarterback, Drew Brees, and is now ready to hit free agency. With a lot of movement among franchise quarterbacks, it is clear that NFL teams are willing to do what it takes to get the best quarterback on their team.

Winston had some up and down seasons in Tampa Bay before this year but will need to show that he has taken the next step forward and can help a team win.

Here are the five teams who should consider Jameis Winston as their quarterback.

New Orleans Saints

If the Saints do not feel that the quarterback of their future will be available with the 28th overall pick, then they will need a quarterback who can come in on a short deal and help the team stay competitive.

Nobody fits that bill better than Jameis Winston. Winston has already been with the team for a year and knows what the offense is looking for. He could sign a short term deal to be a bridge for when New Orleans feels confident with a rookie moving forward.

Atlanta Falcons

Another team that just saw their franchise quarterback retire could be looking for the services of Winston. No matter if Atlanta decides to draft a quarterback early or not, they should look at adding Winston. If they take a quarterback, having a veteran that the rookie can sit behind almost always works better.

On the other hand, Winston could give them enough confidence at the position that they look elsewhere in the draft and upgrade another position of need. Either way, Winston would be a good add for the Falcons.

Washington Football Team

The Washington Football Team won a terrible NFC East almost entirely because of their defense. The offense struggled to do anything all season and with a draft pick amongst the teams who made the playoffs, they will not be getting one of the instant difference makers.

This team is built around their defense, so a quarterback that comes with a high risk high reward past could fit well in providing the spark the offense needs, knowing their defense can make up for his mistakes.

New England Patriots

Are the New England Patriots actually going to enter rebuild mode? That thought seems completely foreign after the franchise has been dominate for so many years under Tom Brady.

Needing to look elsewhere, however, if they want to avoid a rebuild Winston may be their best bet. He could give them just enough thrust to stay relevant until they develop a new identity.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears started 2020 so strong but then fell apart down the stretch. A strong defense was not enough for an offense that struggled doing anything positive.

The Mitch Trubisky era may be coming to an end, but unless the team trades up or makes a play for a big name quarterback, they will be left looking at the second tier of options.

Even that will be an upgrade over Trubisky and Winston could provide just enough firepower to turn this into a playoff team.
