The New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers are in what many people would call the honeymoon phase of their relationship. Everything is going great out of the gate, all smiles and optimism as the team has high hopes for the 2023 season.
With Rodgers leading the offense, the Jets feel they are legitimate contenders for the Super Bowl this season. With an excellent defense already in place, this would have been a playoff team, at the very least, with competent quarterback play in 2022.
The Jets didn’t score a touchdown in the final three games of the season, as they watched their strong 6-3 start go down the drain, losing seven out of eight games following their bye week. That includes a six-game losing streak to cap off the season.
With Rodgers now in the fold, those issues offensively shouldn’t persist any longer. While some people believe that the Jets will take the NFL by storm this season, there are certainly some skeptics.
One person who is skeptical of the Jets finding success in 2023 is an NFL scout that spoke to NFL Analysis Network. They had some strong words about Rodgers, as they believe an unraveling will occur soon enough.
“This is going to get ugly. He’s had this persona of being an all-love and easy-going kind of guy, but that has never been Aaron (Rodgers). It has all been a show, and that will all unravel as the issues come up in New York, just like they always did in Green Bay.”
Some cracks in the happy-go-lucky persona that Rodgers has shared during his time with the Jets began to show this week. He was reportedly showing some frustration, during a joint practice with the Detroit Lions, where the Jets’ offense struggled to get going at times.
While Rodgers tried to downplay the frustrations, a few teammates said that they could sense it. He has done a great job to this point of being lenient and helping his teammates learn the playbook, but his patience seems to be wearing thin.
This will certainly be something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks. The Jets still have about a month until their regular season kicks off against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, so there is time to get everyone on the right page. But, a daunting early season schedule could throw everything for a loop right out of the gate.
