NFL Scout Gets Brutally Honest About Seahawks’ QB Situation

The Seattle Seahawks pulled off a huge blockbuster trade this offseason, sending Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a package of three players and five draft picks. It is the end of an era in Seattle, as Wilson has been the starting quarterback for 10 seasons, recording only one losing record in that time.

Unfortunately, that losing record came last season as the relationship between Wilson and the organization seemed to be eroding. Now, Wilson will be leading a Broncos team with championship aspirations and the Seahawks are left with some question marks.

Despite going 7-10 last season, Seattle wasn’t as far off from being playoff contenders again as some people thought. With a few tweaks and a healthy Wilson, the playoffs were an attainable goal. Now, they have to figure out what direction they want to go in.

Drew Lock was acquired in the Russell deal and right now, he sits atop the depth chart. Unless Seattle is planning to rebuild this season, which could be in the cards as they moved on from Bobby Wagner as well, Lock needs to be upgraded upon.

It is a conundrum that an NFL scout got brutally honest about when talking to NFL Analysis Network. The Seahawks need to figure out the direction they are going in and decide what to do at the quarterback position accordingly.

“Does anybody really think Drew Lock is the guy for Seattle? Honestly, and this is no disrespect to Drew. He’s not a guy that you want starting with a roster otherwise built to compete. Seattle needs to either rebuild or find a legitimate starter.”

Some people believe Seattle will use their first-round pick on one of the quarterbacks in this year’s draft class. If that is the route they take, it would suggest they are heading toward a rebuilding year.

However, with a 70-year old head coach in Pete Carroll, rebuilding doesn’t seem like something anyone wants to do. If that is the case, Seattle should be aggressive in pursuing someone such as Baker Mayfield from the Cleveland Browns.

While Mayfield has had his shortcomings as a starter, he has at least proven he can find success in the league, something that cannot be said about Lock. Acquiring Mayfield after parting ways with Wilson would certainly soften the blow and keep Seattle in the playoff hunt for the upcoming season.
