Could Saints Move Alvin Kamara Before NFL Trade Deadline?

The New Orleans Saints have gotten off to a fairly disappointing start this NFL season, as they dropped to 3-4 with their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.

Typically known for being an explosive offensive ballclub, the Saints have been middle of the pack (if not a bit below average) offensively this season, ranking 18th in the NFL in that category.

One of the most notable struggling New Orleans players has been running back Alvin Kamara, who missed the first three games of the season due to a suspension but has not been all that effective since his return.

In four games in 2023, Kamara has rushed for 261 yards and a touchdown while averaging just 3.8 yards per carry, and while he has caught 35 passes, he has only totaled 177 receiving yards. That’s good for a meager average of 5.1 yards per grab, well below his career average of 8.5.

As a result, USA Today’s NFL staff has listed Kamara among the five players in the league who may need a change of scenery ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

But the question is, would the Saints seriously consider moving Kamara before the end of the month? The answer: Probably not.

While New Orleans hasn’t looked great, it is a playoff contender, especially in the weak NFC South. Even if Kamara has not been all that efficient thus far, he is still a crucial piece in the Saints’ offense, and their offense would indeed look even worse without him in the lineup.

After all, Kamara is a five-time Pro Bowler, and while his production has slacked off the last couple of years, he can still be a valuable piece who can have a breakout game at a moment’s notice.

The Saints will look to snap their two-game skid next weekend when they take on the Indianapolis Colts.
