NFL Writer Calls Steelers Best Destination For Russell Wilson

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a rather unstable situation at quarterback, but they could have a potential solution on the horizon.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine has named the Steelers as the best destination for Denver Broncos signal-caller Russell Wilson if and when the Broncos release Wilson.

Wilson was benched for the final two games of the regular season after he refused to defer his $37 million injury guarantee. It is widely expected that Denver will cut Wilson in order to save some money.

The nine-time Pro Bowler will certainly have no shortage of possible suitors, but there is also no doubt that some situations will be better than others for the veteran.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has already reported that Pittsburgh will be a sleeper team in the probable event that Wilson becomes available, and given its current situation under center, that’s not too surprising.

Kenny Pickett is the Steelers’ starting quarterback at the moment, but he has amassed a grand total of 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over his first two NFL seasons. He hasn’t exactly inspired much confidence, so Pittsburgh will almost certainly evaluate the position this offseason.

The problem for the Steelers is that they won 10 games this year, so unless they trade up, they won’t be able to take one of the top quarterbacks in the draft.

That’s why it would make sense for Pittsburgh to turn to Wilson, an established commodity who has already led a team to a Super Bowl championship.

The Steelers have a decent roster overall and have some weapons in the aerial attack, so all they may really need is a legitimate presence at quarterback to reach that next level.

Whether or not any of this comes to fruition is anyone’s guess, but the idea of Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh next season is certainly interesting.
