Notre Dame’s forthcoming football season is set to feature an unconventional addition to the team – Eric Goins, a former United States Army serviceman with an extraordinary journey.

After dedicating the last seven years of his life to military service, Goins has decided to step onto the college football field as a walk-on player for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Goins’ football history includes a stint at The Citadel from 2012 to 2015, prior to his military service. Remarkably, this talented kicker will have just one shot at making his mark at Notre Dame, as he possesses only a single season of eligibility remaining.

The last time Goins showcased his kicking prowess was back in 2015, and he left an indelible mark.

During that season, he exhibited exceptional accuracy by successfully converting 16 of his 21 field goal attempts, a feat that still holds as a program record to this day. Additionally, his reliability extended to extra-point attempts, where he impressively made all 42 of them.

Goins wasn’t just about field goals and extra points; he excelled as a kickoff specialist as well. His kicks consistently soared, averaging over 61 yards per kickoff.

With this impressive skill set, Goins is poised to contribute significantly to Notre Dame’s quest to become one of the nation’s top-ranked kicking teams when the 2024 season kicks off in August.
