Texas Longhorns Already Losing Former Transfer Portal Addition

It appears the transition wasn’t as enduring as anticipated for Texas Longhorns transfer portal addition Kendrick Blackshire. Shortly after relocating from Tuscaloosa to Austin, a former Alabama linebacker is once again making a move by entering the transfer portal.

Reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, linebacker Blackshire is departing from the University of Texas. Blackshire had joined the Longhorns in January following his transfer from Alabama.

During his tenure with the Crimson Tide spanning three seasons, Blackshire accumulated 25 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and 2.0 tackles for loss.

Back in 2021, 247Sports touted Blackshire as a four-star prospect and the 168th recruit in his class. He held the distinction of being the 21st ranked linebacker nationally and the 30th prospect from Texas.

Texas is basking in the glory of one of its most successful seasons in 15 years, clinching the Big 12 Championship in its final year as a member and toppling Alabama in Tuscaloosa on the way to securing a spot in the College Football Playoff for the first time.

However, their fairytale journey came to an abrupt halt against the Washington Huskies, and now they’re gearing up for the challenges of life in the SEC.

It seems Kendrick Blackshire won’t be a part of the new chapter for either Alabama or Texas football.

While this is a disappointing loss for the Texas Longhorns, they will be just fine. Steve Sarkisian has done an excellent job of adding talent both via recruiting and the transfer portal.
