Heading into the 2024 season, the Texas Longhorns boast one of the most formidable rosters in the nation, teeming with top-tier talent across various positions.

Even areas of initial concern, like defensive tackle, received a significant boost with the addition of skilled player Bill Norton from Arizona via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

However, not all news was entirely favorable post-spring. The departure of cornerbacks Terrance Brooks and Austin Jordan to the transfer portal left a void, particularly at the field corner position, casting a shadow of uncertainty.

Nevertheless, the Longhorns possess options to fill this gap. Gavin Holmes stands ready to step into the starting role, while Santana Wilson, Wardell Mack, Warren Roberson, and Kobe Black offer potential, albeit untested, alternatives. Still, there’s a desire to fortify this position with additional talent.

Enter Jay’Vion Cole, a standout cornerback transfer from San Jose State, who is reportedly scheduled to visit the Texas campus in the upcoming weeks.

According to reports from 247Sports, Cole is also considering visits to Michigan State and Auburn, alongside offers from Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), South Florida, and Jacksonville State.

Cole’s journey began at Cal Poly, where he made an immediate impact as a true freshman, tallying 15 tackles, four passes defended, and four interceptions.

Last offseason, he made the transition to San Jose State, culminating in a notable season comprising 28 tackles, 10 passes defended, three interceptions, and a sack, earning him an honorable mention All-Mountain West recognition.

It will be interesting to see if the Texas Longhorns can seal the deal on bringing Cole in to shore up their defensive secondary.
