2023 is the dawn of a new era for the Green Bay Packers. The Jordan Love era is set to begin as he will be taking over as the team’s starting quarterback after future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in the days leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft.

Love has some huge shoes to fill, just as Rodgers did when he took over for Brett Favre, who was also traded to the Jets. That means Love has about 15 years to cement himself in Green Bay before ending up on Gang Green as well.

All jokes aside, this is Love’s job as the Packers didn’t even bring in a veteran to put any heat on him as the starter. Right now the quarterbacks battling it out for the backup job behind him are Danny Etling and rookie Sean Clifford, neither of who have thrown a regular season pass.

Love doesn’t have many regular season passes under his belt either, but the team has been happy with the progress that he has made. He showed enough in his relief appearances and in workouts that ownership and the front office were comfortable moving forward with him as the starter.

During a recent press conference, Love revealed what his mindset was this offseason. He was controlling what he could and had the mindset that he was going to be the team’s starter, as shared by ESPN NFL Nation Packers reporter, Rob Demovsky.

That is certainly a veteran mindset as Love was only focused on the things he could control. Working hard at developing his craft and diving into the playbook to prepare himself as much as possible are things he could control to prepare himself for becoming the starter.

Love did admit that the last three years have felt very long as he waited his turn to take over as the Packers’ starter. His rookie season was the longest he said, which was the first of back-to-back MVP seasons for Rodgers.

The Utah State product also shared that he and Rodgers spoke after the trade became official. They gave each other well wishes and Love revealed that Rodgers also told him that he would be there for him should he ever need anything.

While the extension that Rodgers signed in 2022 left Love feeling in limbo, everything ended up working out in the end. He now has a starting job with the Packers and Rodgers is reportedly as happy as he has been in years with the Jets.
