The Green Bay Packers shocked a lot of people when they defeated the Dallas Cowboys during Super Wild Card Weekend. Not only did Green Bay go into AT&T Stadium and win, they did it convincingly, blowing out Dallas 48-32.
That victory earned them a matchup with the San Francisco 49ers during the Divisional Round. The Packers were once again very game, giving the 49ers all they could handle in what was a much more competitive game than many people were predicting.
Green Bay lost as they were unable to execute in the fourth quarterback. Rookie kicker Anders Carlson had a 41-yard miss that kept their lead at only four points. The 49ers took the ball right down the field for a touchdown on that possession, taking a 24-21 lead.
NFL News & Rumors: Brett Favre, Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers Updates
That would end up being the final score as Jordan Love threw an interception on the team’s final drive of the season. It was an ill-advised throw, the kind that Love has been avoiding in recent weeks during the team’s hot streak as he tried to do a little too much on his own.
It was his second interception of the game and first time that he has thrown one in over a month. His last interception came December 11th on Monday Night Football againt the New York Giants.
Despite the late-game gaffe, Love still received some positive feedback from a lot of fans and analysts for the job he did leading the youngest team in the NFL. One of the people who praised him after the game was former Packers quarterback, Brett Favre.
“Great game and tough loss for my Packers. I’m sure I speak for all Packers fans when I say, ‘We are very proud of you and can’t wait to see what the future holds’. “Lots to be excited about. Jordan, keep your chin up because I believe you can be the best Packer QB yet. Congrats 49ers,” Favre wrote on his X account, formerly Twitter.
NFL News & Rumors: Brett Favre, Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers Updates
That is some high praise for Love from the Hall of Fame quarterback. He had some huge shoes to fill, as Favre and Love’s predecessor, Aaron Rodgers, provided the Packers with Hall of Fame production for three decades.
That isn’t an easy thing to have to follow up, but Love didn’t look phased at all by the pressure which was on his shoulders. He had a great season and it was a success for the Packers, who went 9-8 in the regular season and became the first No. 7 seed to advance in NFL history.
As Favre said, there is a lot to be excited about if you are a Packers fan. This is a young team that should only get better in 2024 with some more experience under their belt and an infusion of talent.
