There are certainly more people in the football world who believe Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers are going to struggle in 2023 than people who believe they will find success. There are plenty of doubters who can’t imagine Love stepping into the lineup and successfully replacing Aaron Rodgers right off the bat.
While the 2023 season is the first that Love will be the Packers’ starter, he is entering his fourth season in the NFL. He spent the first three after being a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft as the backup to Rodgers.
While he is lacking experience, Love is certainly prepared for what is ahead. He has taken thousands of reps in practice and training camps over the years to make sure when his number was called, he would be able to respond.
There will certainly be pressure on Love to continue the standard that has been set in Green Bay. The Packers have had 30 years of Hall of Fame production under center that Love will be tasked with following up.
That certainly won’t be easy, but Pat McAfee believes that he will get the job done. During a recent episode of his show, McAfee made some wild comments about Love and the Packers, as he expects the Utah State product to play at a high level right out of the gate.
“Jordan Love, huh? This kid’s a player. Everyone was coming after us, saying we would not be Jordan Love supporters. I feel like we have been Jordan Love supporters, and watching him play, there’s good reason to be a Jordan Love supporter!
“His teammates love him. The Packers are going well with him. And against the New England Patriots, he’s throwing f—ing missiles.
“Jordan Love, I assume, has won over all the Packers fans that were maybe thinking ‘we’re going to be in a transition year, a bad year.’ And what I’m seeing out of him, Packers fans might be the luckiest group of people of all time. Again, it’s just preseason, but from Favre (that’s a compliment), to Aaron, to this guy. What an incredible run!”
Love’s performance during the Packers’ first two preseason games should illicit some positive responses. He played five series, competing 12-of-18 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions.
That is certainly some positive momentum being built heading into the regular season. Those good performances aren’t going unnoticed, either, as Rich Eisen also heaped praise on the job that Love has done this offseason as the Packers’ starter.
