The Green Bay Packers are entering the 2023 season without much pressure. Many analysts and fans have already written the team off, not confident that Jordan Love will be able to replace Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback.
While expectations are low, there is a ton of pressure on Love to succeed. Not only is he replacing a legendary player, as a first-round pick, there are some expectations in place to live up to. After sitting behind Rodgers for the last three seasons, the 2020 first-round pick will now have a chance to showcase his talents.
Projecting how well Love and the Packers’ offense will perform is certainly not easy. There is a lack of data to go off of as Love has 10 career appearances, including one start, and 83 regular season passes under his belt. The supporting cast around him is just as inexperienced, as they will all be growing together.
With so much youth and inexperience, it is easy to ignore the Packers as a team that can make noise in the 2023 season. However, one prominent NFL analyst believes that the green and gold are being overlooked. On a recent episode of his show, Rich Eisen expressed some confidence in what the Packers are building.
Based on Love’s performance this offseason, Eisen has a point. Whatever challenge he has faced, whether it was a misthrow or a bad read, he has bounced back. In two preseason games, five series total, he has completed 12-of-18 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Love has also drawn praise from some of the opponents that he has gone up against. Last week, following the first joint practice against the New England Patriots, star pass rusher Matt Judon had some praise for the Utah State product.
While there will likely be some bumps in the road during the regular season, the Packers are set up well for the future. Love is surrounded by some very talented young players, potentially providing Green Bay with a foundation to build upon for years to come.
