With Mac Jones and the New England Patriots struggling, Rob Gronkowski recently spoke about why Jones should leave the team.

The New England Patriots have had a very disappointing season in 2023, and it feels like big changes are going to be happening in New England. While Bill Belichick might be coaching in his last season in New England, the team might also look to move on from Mac Jones.

After a strong rookie season, Jones has regressed the last few seasons in New England. The offense has been under a lot of scrutiny this season for its struggles, and Jones has taken a lot of blame for it.

Jones was benched again last week and it seems like the team will eventually be going in a different direction. Recently, Rob Gronkowski spoke about what Jones should do with the season coming to a close. Here’s what Gronkowski had to say.

“I think Mac Jones should ultimately just go and ask for his release,” Gronkowski told host Kay Adams. “Ask for his release and then he should sign with the Cleveland Browns and start a new career right there.”

The scenario brought up by Gronkowski is a very interesting one for Jones. The Browns will be looking for a quarterback with Deshaun Watson out for the season. Even without Watson for parts of this season, the Browns have been very good and are in the playoff hunt.

Now that the trade deadline has passed, the Browns’ options at quarterback will be limited. For Jones, with his time as the starting quarterback in New England likely being done, asking for his release and going to the Browns could give him a great opportunity to find the success that he had earlier on in his career.

While the Patriots haven’t shown any indications of letting Jones go, Gronkowski bringing it up is certainly noteworthy with his history on the team. We will have to wait and see what happens in New England with Jones and the team.
