Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts put forth what was unquestionably his best performance of the season in his team’s Week 8 win over the Washington Commanders, and he set an NFL record in the process.

After going 29-for-38 with 319 yards and four touchdowns while carrying the ball four times for six yards, Hurts became the first signal-caller in league history to rack up at least 1,500 passing yards and 150 rushing yards in a single month (h/t Doug Clawson of CBS Sports). Funny enough, Hurts hit exactly 1,500 passing yards in four October games and totaled 180 yards on the ground.

On the season overall, Hurts has thrown for 2,140 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 68.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 94.3. He has also rushed for 280 yards and six scores.

The main issue for Hurts has been turnovers. His eight picks lead the NFL, and he lost a fumble for the second straight week in the win over the Commanders. He has lost three fumbles overall this year, running his turnover total to 11 for the campaign.

Fortunately, Hurts’ trouble with ball security has not negatively affected the Eagles thus far aside from a Week 6 loss to the New York Jets in which he threw three picks. Philadelphia boasts the league’s best record at 7-1.

Hurts, who played his collegiate football at both the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma, was selected by Philly in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He became the full-time starter for the Eagles in 2021, and by his second season, Hurts was a Pro Bowler after totaling 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 66.5 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 101.5. Additionally, Hurts recorded 760 yards and 13 scores as a rusher and finished second in MVP voting.

Most importantly, Jalen Hurts led the Birds all the way to the Super Bowl last February before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Philadelphia will battle the Dallas Cowboys in an NFC East showdown next weekend.
