The Cincinnati Bengals were expected to be one of the best teams in football going into this season. The early results say otherwise.
The Bengals have gotten off to an 0-2 start and have looked miserable on offense, ranking last in the NFL in yards per game and mustering just 27 points over the first two weeks of the season.
If Cincinnati continues to struggle, it could end up moving some players ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
One such name that could be on the move is offensive tackle Jonah Williams.
Williams requested a trade this past offseason after the Bengals signed fellow tackle Orlando Brown Jr. This moved Williams from the left side to the right side of the line, and with Williams set to hit free agency in the spring, trading him seems to be a distinct possibility if Cincy continues to slide.
Should he become available, the Philadelphia Eagles could be a potential suitor, as Vincent Frank of SportsNaut highlights.
While the Eagles’ offensive line is hardly a weakness, the club could certainly afford to add some depth to the trenches. Plus, with Williams being just 25 years old, he could eventually become a fixture at one of their tackle positions, particularly with Lane Johnson now being 33.
Williams, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by the Bengals with the 11th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Injuries derailed his rookie campaign, and Williams did not suit up at all in 2019 as result. He then started 10 games in 2020, with injury issues once again hindering him. Williams finally got healthy in 2021, and since then, he has played in 34 of Cincinnati’s 35 contests.
The Eagles will look to improve to 3-0 when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday. Meanwhile, the Bengals will aim to pick up their first win of 2023 when they host the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night.
