Could the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots complete a trade before the Oct. 31 NFL deadline?
Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus thinks there is a match there.
Spielberger has comprised a potential deal that would send Patriots cornerback Jalen Mills to the Eagles for a 2024 sixth-round draft pick.
Philadelphia’s secondary has been a source of concern this season, as the Eagles rank just 18th in the league in pass defense through seven weeks.
Philly has already began shoring up its defensive backfield, acquiring safety Kevin Byard in a trade with the Tennessee Titans on Monday. However, it’s entirely possible that the Birds are not done dealing, and a cheap cornerback like Mills could represent a viable pickup.
It’s worth noting that Mills spent the first five seasons of his career with the Eagles between 2016 and 2020, helping Philadelphia win a Super Bowl during the 2017-18 campaign.
Mills played both cornerback and free safety for Philly during his tenure with the club, so he would also bring some versatility to the table.
The 29-year-old is currently in his third season with New England. Through seven games this season, he has logged 12 tackles.
Jalen Mills’ most productive NFL campaign came during his sophomore year in 2017, when he racked up 64 tackles, three interceptions, 14 passes defended and a defensive touchdown in 15 contests. Injuries limited him in both 2018 and 2019, and during his final season with the Eagles, he totaled 74 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a pick.
Philadelphia improved to 6-1 with its win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday and will look to complete a season sweep of the Washington Commanders next weekend.
