Throughout the 2023-24 NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles emerged as strong contenders for a repeat Super Bowl appearance.

With a commanding 10-1 start, including tight victories against formidable playoff-bound teams, optimism soared. However, their momentum waned towards the season’s end. Struggling in the final stretch, the Eagles stumbled, losing five of their last six regular-season games. Consequently, they relinquished their dominant position in the NFC East, settling for a wild card entry into the NFC playoffs.

Disappointingly, their postseason journey was short-lived, succumbing to a lackluster defeat against Tampa Bay, with a final score of 32-9, despite entering as road favorites.

As the new season approaches, the question looms: Can the Eagles reclaim their former glory? FanDuel Sportsbook places them as the fourth-favorites in the NFC to clinch the Super Bowl, offering odds at +1700, translating to a 5.56% implied probability of securing their second Lombardi Trophy.

Nationally, they rank eighth overall in Super Bowl contention, trailing behind NFC powerhouses like the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, and divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

Although Philadelphia relinquished the NFC East crown to Dallas, they now face a less daunting schedule, avoiding top-seeded teams and confronting fellow second-place finishers such as the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Los Angeles Rams.

Under the continued leadership of head coach Nick Sirianni, who has guided the team to postseason berths in all three of his seasons, hopes remain high. Yet, the Eagles’ fortunes heavily rely on the performance of quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Despite battling through injuries, Hurts showcased promise, tallying a career-best 3,858 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, albeit accompanied by a career-high 15 interceptions. Notably, his contributions extended beyond passing, with a career-high 15 rushing touchdowns, emblematic of the team’s resilience dubbed the “Brotherly Shove.”

Hurts, once a frontrunner for the MVP title before the Eagles’ late-season slump, now shares the spotlight with Dallas’ Dak Prescott, both at +1600 odds for the 2024-25 MVP accolade.
