Steelers Again Connected As Possible Kirk Cousins Trade Suitor

The Pittsburgh Steelers have gotten off to a 3-2 start this season and sit a half-game behind the Baltimore Ravens for first place in the AFC North.

The Steelers had a bye in Week 6, but in their most recent game last Sunday, they topped the Ravens by a score of 17-10.

Pittsburgh has been a surprise contender in its division, and it is managing to stay afloat in spite of some subpar quarterback play from Kenny Pickett.

Perhaps the Steelers are just an upgrade under center away from being a serious threat?

Taking that into consideration, it’s no surprise that Pittsburgh has been mentioned as a potential destination for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, as both Diana Russini of The Athletic and Jarrett Bailey of Touchdown Wire said that Mike Tomlin’s club could have interest in the veteran.

However, just because the Steelers look like a potential fit does not mean they are actually going to pursue a trade for Cousins.

Russini notes that any team that attempts to deal for Cousins would have to give up premium draft assets while also absorbing Cousins’ salary for the rest of this season. Plus, Cousins will be a free agent at the end of the year, so if Pittsburgh does acquire him, it would also have to extend him.

It might all be a moot point, anyway.

In spite of all of the speculation, Russini downplayed a potential Cousins trade, saying that the Vikings currently have no intention of trading him and that they haven’t ruled out possibly re-signing him in the offseason.

It should also be noted that Kirk Cousins has a no-trade clause, so he can block any deal.

The 35-year-old has been terrific this season, leading the NFL in both completions (158) and passing touchdowns (14) through the first six weeks.

Minnesota is just 2-4 on the year.
