Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is feeling confident about his team’s offense heading into its Week 10 meeting with the Green Bay Packers.
Following the Steelers’ 20-16 win over the Tennessee Titans last Thursday, Pickett says that he feels Pittsburgh’s offense may be coming together at the right time.
“I thought the balance was there,” Pickett said, via Dale Lolly of the Steelers’ official team website. “You know, (Najee Harris) and (Jaylen Warren) ran the ball great. The line was was firing off the ball. They’re protected really well. I stayed clean the majority of the game. So, that’s kind of what we’re trying to get to here.”
The Steelers’ offense ranks just 28th in the NFL in yardage and 29th in points per game, so no one is going to confuse the club with being an offensive juggernaut.
However, Pickett likes the direction in which the offense seems to be headed.
“I think it was one of the times that you saw it and you saw it ramp a little bit,” Pickett said of the performance against the Titans. “There’s this burst of it that we just haven’t been able to put through for four quarters and that’s what we’re trying to get to.”
Pittsburgh certainly assembled a balanced attack against Tennessee, registering 160 passing yards as well as 166 rushing yards. The Steelers averaged 5.4 yards per play.
It has been a struggle for Pickett in his second season, as he has thrown for 1,490 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 61.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 81.6.
Some have suggested that Pittsburgh should begin its search for another quarterback, but it’s probably fair to give Kenny Pickett a little more time before we write him off entirely.
The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh, was selected by the Steelers with the 20th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh is 5-3 and sits one-and-a-half games behind the Baltimore Ravens for first place in the AFC North division.
