The Pittsburgh Steelers have expressed interest in San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, and Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport thinks the Steelers could put together an impressive package for him.
Davenport suggests that Pittsburgh trades the 20th overall pick and a third-rounder in exchange for Aiyuk and a fourth-rounder, which would provide the Steelers with a terrific wide out to put alongside of George Pickens. It would also give the 49ers some great draft capital
San Francisco is in a tough spot with Aiyuk.
Aiyuk is heading into the final year of his deal, and with the Niners being rather strapped financially, they may not not be able to afford him moving forward.
The 49ers have a ton of talent on their roster that they are either already paying or will have to pay in the future, and in particular, they have to worry about extending Brock Purdy.
Aiyuk also does not appear keen on taking a hometown discount, so San Francisco will either have to pony up the cash or lose him.
Of course, the Niners may want to keep Aiyuk through 2024, as they are trying to win a Super Bowl, and Aiyuk is a big part of that.
But, if the 49ers decide to put Aiyuk on the trading block, the Steelers may very well be one of the top potential destinations.
Pittsburgh traded fellow wide out Diontae Johnson last month, so the team is certainly in need of another pass-catcher. Right now, the Steelers have very limited depth at the position behind Pickens, so adding Brandon Aiyuk into the fold would be a significant boon.
Now that Pittsburgh has Russell Wilson under center, it may want to load up on weapons.
