The Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a rather stunning win on Sunday, upsetting the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 17-10. With the win, the Steelers improved to 3-2 and jumped into a first-place tie with the Ravens in the AFC North. Technically, Pittsburgh is actually ahead of Baltimore by way of the tiebreaker.
But one thing remains clear: the Steelers need help offensively.
Pittsburgh ranks 30th in the NFL in total offense and 29th in scoring. The club has hit to reach the 30-point mark in any one game this season, and it has been held to single digits twice.
Perhaps the Steelers’ biggest offensive issue is under center, as second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett has struggled.
Could Pittsburgh seek a signal-caller between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline? And could that quarterback be Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings? Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine has pitched the idea.
The Vikings fell to 1-4 with their Week 5 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and are now three games behind the Detroit Lions for first place in the NFC North.
More than likely, Minnesota will be a seller in the coming weeks, and while moving Cousins still seems relatively improbable at this point, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Cousins’ contract expires at the end of this season, and the Vikings seem like they need a rebuild. With Cousins being 35 years old, it’s hard to envision him being a part of a roster reconstruction.
The Steelers are somehow contending in spite of pretty poor overall numbers, so maybe Cousins is exactly what they need?
Pittsburgh could send its 2024 first-round draft pick to Minnesota for Kirk Cousins, providing the Vikings with a nice draft asset and satisfying the Steelers’ own need for a quarterback.
Cousins currently leads the NFL in both completions (137) and passing touchdowns (13).
