Steelers Urged To Reunite With Team Legend As Coach

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered an embarrassing lost last weekend, losing to the Houston Texans by a score of 30-6. The Texans aren’t exactly world beaters, which made the defeat all the more humiliating for a Steelers club that has become accustomed to winning.

Legendary Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger criticized the play calling of offensive coordinator Matt Canada during the game, going as far to say that he “hated” it.

Well, Tone Digs of The Pat McAfee Show has a novel idea: why not can Canada and employ Roethlisberger as the offensive coordinator?

“He knows the plays. He knows the players,” Digs said of Roethlisberger. “I mean, if he doesn’t come back and save the city at this point, he’s kind of being selfish.”

Of course, Digs, who is a Steelers fan, was half-joking with his remark. He also suggested that Roethlisberger and former Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Todd Haley could do the job together.

In all seriousness, the Steelers’ offensive struggles are no laughing matter.

Pittsburgh ranks just 29th in the NFL in yardage and is fourth from the bottom of the league in points per game over the first four weeks of the season.

The Steelers have yet to hit 30 points in any individual game this season and have twice been held to single digits, with the first instance coming in a 30-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers back in Week 1.

Canada initially joined Pittsburgh as the club’s quarterbacks coach in 2020, but he was promoted to offensive coordinator the following year. The results have not been pretty, as the Steelers ranked 23rd in the NFL in each of Canada’s first two seasons at the helm, and things have looked even worse in 2023.

Pittsburgh is 2-2 on the year and will host the Baltimore Ravens in an AFC North clash this Sunday.
