Predicting the 2020 NFL Season for Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire

The role Clyde Edwards-Helaire will play with the Kansas City Chiefs should be prominent immediately. That’s even more so the case when considering Kansas City will be without Super Bowl hero Damien Williams for the 2020 season after his decision to opt-out.

It’s not just Williams that will be out of the picture for the Chiefs from their 2019 backfield. LeSean McCoy signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and between both players, they combined for 212 carries last season. The next most frequent rusher was Patrick Mahomes (43) before other backs.

When considering the circumstances, Edwards-Helaire should come right out of the gate and put up big numbers. It wouldn’t be out of the question for him to reach totals of 198 carries, 911 rushing yards, and nine rushing touchdowns. As for receiving, he could achieve 52 catches for 442 receiving yards and three touchdown catches.

The updated projection ESPN has for Edwards-Helaire positions him as the No. 10 running back for PPR scoring. They expect him to record 195 carries, 854 rushing yards, and eight rushing touchdowns along with 48 receptions, 400 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Clyde Edwards-Helaire end the 2020 season as a finalist for the NFL’s Offensive rookie of the Year Award, or even as the winner. He should accomplish big things with the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie playing in a prolific offense once again.
