The Detroit Lions have had a few rough seasons culminating with last year’s debacle ending with a 3-12-1 record. Nothing went well for Detroit, but an exciting NFL draft gives fans some excitement about the young talent in the building. After selecting Jeff Okudah in round one, the offense took over round two when the Lions selected D’Andre Swift.

Swift was long considered one of the best running backs coming out of college which is why he was selected so high in the second round. On a Georgia team that struggled to throw the ball, Swift was a dominate player. He racked up 1,218 yards in his last season with the Bulldogs, but the impressive part comes from his high 6.2 yards per carry.

Swift may not have had the statistical production as a J.K. Dobbins or a Jonathan Taylor, but the lower usage rate in college is something that is actually working for Swift in the NFL.

The Lions need a back that they can trust to carry the workload and take some of the pressure off Matthew Stafford. Last season the Lions ranked inside the top 10 in passing yards but were 21st in running yards. In order for Detroit to see more success in 2020, they need to get a stronger rushing game. Swift is the man the Lions hope is the answer to that.

With that being said, let’s take a look at what to expect from Lions RB D’Andre Swift in the 2020 NFL season.
